Language Access, Community Outreach, Community Engagement, and Cross-Cultural Communications

 

About me

 I am a U.N. certified Translator and Interpreter and a cross-cultural; communication, community outreach and engagement consultant.

Together with a team of two professional and federally certified language access professionals, I support a diverse clientele encompassing government, academia, nonprofits, and private enterprise in the areas of language access, diversity and inclusion, community engagement, intercultural program development, cross-cultural communication, translation, and interpretation.

CLACE is widely recognized for excellence in translation, transcreation and interpretation services, community activation and engagement, and bridging gaps to address complex societal, community, cultural, and language challenges. My clients rely on CLACE to develop initiatives, programs and partnerships that positively elevate and impact the Latinx community as well as other underserved ethnic and racial minority communities. Translation of thousands of pages of scientific documents and websites for Federal government, local government and local agencies, including the International IPCC reports and the most recent UN Third National Climate Change Report for The White House, etc.

Experience

  • Interpreter to Federal government agencies, local government and local agencies meetings (In-person and remotely.)

  • I understand and respect the cultural differences and nuances that exist between cultures. This allows me to comprehend the message better and interpret it without compromising its content.

  • Developed of Explorados Senderos, an outdoor experience program that supports Latinx families through community gatherings, walks, hikes, fishing, and education on nature and wellbeing.

  • Consultant and advisor on the advancement of equity and language access to the City of Boulder and Boulder County, local and international scientists, National Labs, the United Nations and UNESCO, universities, politicians, museum directors, as well as teachers, media professionals, and grassroots organizations.

  • Boulder Valley School District (BVSD) education and counseling on the topics of equity, cultural competence and cultural responsiveness, outreach strategies, nontraditional students’ challenges, and development of STEM curricula integrating cultural components.

Develop the Cultural Responsiveness and Inclusion Strategic Plan (CRISP) for the Parks and Open Space (POS) department of Boulder County. The plan focuses on Latinx communities as a first step towards underserved, marginalized communities, with the goal of adding a cultural responsiveness and inclusion lens to all that POS does, through:

  • Increasing the awareness of cultures, histories, needs, and interests of Latinx communities;

  • Building positive, lasting relationships;

  • Infusing the CRISP vision and insights into POS work.

  • Intercultural training for several Board of Directors, the NASA MAVEN project, the National Institute of Health’s (NIH) Descubre la Salud project, the Denver Museum of Nature and Science (DMNS) Taste of Lab, NOAA, Trestle Strategy Group and the City of Boulder, among others.

  • Education and Outreach Coordinator and Chief Translator for the National Center for Atmospheric Research (NCAR), bringing bilingual resources to educators working with Latino audiences in the US and in Latin America.

  • Victims Advocate for the Boulder Police Department since 2003, and participant in the creation of the Boulder Police Department Master Plan.

  • National keynote speaker for the Green Schools National Conference, COSA Conference, NY University Terra Urban Conference, NOAA, and The State University of Sonora (UES), Mexico.
